Rediscovering My Steampunk Heart

While sorting through my supplies the other day, I stumbled upon a stash of bits and pieces from last year’s Valentine’s steampunk heart brooches. I’d completely forgotten how much I loved making them!

There’s something so magical about combining steampunk charm with a touch of upcycling old bits that probably would’ve ended up in the bin. Each heart feels like it has its own story to tell, a little reminder that love can be both strong and beautifully imperfect.

When I make these brooches, I start by rummaging through my collection of old alarm clock winders and tiny cogs, each one with its own bit of history. I blend these with polymer clay to form the heart base, shaping and smoothing until it feels just right. Then comes the fiddly part - adding the tiny flat-back gold cabochons as rivets. They’re so small I have to place each one with tweezers, but that’s part of the fun. It’s a slow, meditative process that makes every piece completely unique.

I couldn’t resist bringing them back for another round this Valentine’s season. I’m even planning on revamping the old design these were based on in brass and silver.

If you missed out last time, now’s your chance to grab one of these unique pieces before they’re gone again.

❤️❤️❤️
